Verification Program Manager

Sumerra is proud to serve as the Sustainable Apparel Coalition’s (SAC) Verification Program Manager (VPM). In this capacity, Sumerra manages the implementation of SAC’s Verification Program for the Higg Index Facilities Environmental Module (FEM). This includes the application process, providing certification training, and implementation of Quality Assurance (QA) processes and procedures. All official verifications of the Higg FEM must be completed by a certified verifier.

Training Program Manager

Sumerra also serves as the SAC’s Training Program Manager (TPM). In this capacity, Sumerra manages the implementation of SAC’s Approved Training Provider (ATP) process for the Higg Index Facilities Environmental Module (FEM). This includes the application process, providing training, and implementation of Quality Assurance (QA) processes and procedures. Service providers who wish to provide SAC approved training to facilities must be an official Approved Training Provider.

Sumerra is accepting applications now for the following roles in the SAC programs:

    • Approved Higg FEM 3.0 Verifier
    • Approved Higg FEM 3.0 Chemical Specialist
    • Approved Higg FEM 3.0 Training Provider (ATP)

Before you apply, please note the following:

    • Applicants are accepted all year on an ongoing basis
    • Anyone (brand, manufacturer, service provider, individual) can apply provided they meet the criteria listed below
    • Approved FEM 2.0 Verifiers must be reapproved to conduct FEM 3.0 verifications
    • Application fees are not refundable (therefore, all information provided in the application introduction should be read carefully)
    • Completion of official training is required to be certified or approved. Verifiers must also pass a proctored final exam to be a Certified Higg FEM 3.0 Verifier. More details on the training are provided below.
    • The application is for those who wish to be approved to provide SAC approved services (verification, facility training). For those who are interested in completing training but not seeking to be an approved training provider (e.g. interested to learn new skills or for own personal knowledge), training modules will be available and do not require an application form. These will become available in January 2018. If you are interested you may contact Sumerra or the SAC to express your interest in being alerted when they are available.

Criteria:

Approved Higg FEM 3.0 Verifier
    • Fluency in spoken and written English
    • Sufficient education (e.g. tertiary degree in environmental or life science) and experience with environmental assessments (at least 20 assessment that include a broad set of subject matter including Wastewater, Water use, Chemicals Management, Energy, Air Emissions, Waste, and Environmental Management Systems – NOTE: 40 assessments required if lacking a degree in environmental or life science)
    • Additional experience, skills and training, or certification in environmental subject matter
    • Knowledge of national and local regulation / legislation regarding environmental management
    • Quality control procedures in place to ensure quality of all assessment and reporting work
    • Professional liability insurance coverage of at least US$1 million
Approved Higg FEM 3.0 Chemical Specialist
    • Approval as an Approved Higg FEM 3.0 Verifier
    • Sufficient education (e.g. advance degree in chemistry) and experience with chemical assessments
    • Additional experience, skills and training in chemicals
    • Knowledge of national and local regulation / legislation regarding chemicals management
Approved Higg FEM 3.0 Training Provider
    • Sufficient experience with providing training in environmental management (at least 72 hours of course delivery time)
    • Recent experience in providing environmental management training (at least 6 trainings / 24 hours of course delivery time that includes a broad set of subject matter including Wastewater, Water use, Chemicals Management, Energy, Air Emissions, Waste, and Environmental Management Systems)
    • A minimum of 5 years experience in Environmental Management
    • Additional experience, skills and training, or certification in environmental subject matter

Training Requirements:

Please note the following regarding training and exams:

    • Verifier trainees may not conduct verifications until after they have completed the training and passed their final exam
    • ATP trainees may not deliver approved SAC Higg Training until after they have completed the training
    • Approval is valid from one year of passing the final exam
    • Training fees on non-refundable
